Scouting Fun for the Family!
“Cub Scouting aims to develop youth into participating citizens of good character who are physically, spiritually, and mentally fit. The organization recognizes that it is the responsibility of parents and families to raise their children. The Cub Scout program is a resource that can help families teach their children a wholesome system of values and beliefs while building and strengthening relationships among family members.”– source Boy Scouts of America
Because the family is important to the future of our community and our nation, BSA has a family activity program to encourage families to connect and interact while strengthening and developing character skills through adventure learning experiences. The BSA Family Award may be earned independently by each family on its own or through a coordinated pack/den plan. My son and I chose to work independently to earn our first few patches and then incorporated several of the activities into our den meetings – giving other families the opportunity to participate as well.
This summer at Scouting WDW, we will explore several ways you may complete some of the family activities – the Disney way! Join us as we cover topics in each of the categories:
- Shaping Your Family Identity
- Developing Personal Skills
- Building a Family Team
- Connecting With Your Community
- Facing Family Challenges
What’s really cool about this award is EVERYONE in the family is eligible to earn the patch or pins and wear them with pride on their scout uniform and/or on non-uniform apparel. This is a terrific way to help non-scout siblings become a part of the scouting legacy!
