Everything you need to know about visiting Walt Disney World in the Summer
In SUMMMMERRRRR
If you go on any Facebook Moms Group or Disney Planning Board EVERYONE will tell you to avoid Walt Disney World in Summer.
Our family trips during the summertime look a little different than other times of the year. We get a head start into the parks and then plan for a nice long mid-day break during the most intensely hot part of the day. After a dip in the pool and a nice nap, we head back out to catch the fireworks and close down the parks.
While summer – when the kids are out of school – used to be the busiest time of year, Fall (particularly October) now is considered the busiest season.
The past few years have seen summer crowds drop dramatically. (Use code BLOG10 for 10% off this Planning Calendar to help you know the best times to visit Disney World!)
I have put together everything you need to know about the seasonal events, weather, and more so you know everything if you are considering a trip to Walt Disney World in the summer.
In summer you have longer park hours and seasonal attractions and restaurants open which means you’ll be a . . .
HAPPY DISNEY FAN!!
SPECIAL OVERLAYS COVER THE PARKS
Summer is the only time you’ll get to see certain decorations or themed areas.
Previous summer celebrations have included Incredible Summer in honor of Incredibles 2 and one summer was dedicated to all things Frozen.
This included special treats, special drinks, and unique photo backdrops.
SEASONAL LOCATIONS ARE OPEN
Some of my favorite snacks are only available during the summer, make sure to stop by Westward Ho! in Frontierland to enjoy some loaded fries or make a reservation at Diamond Horseshoe for a fun western family-style meal with amazing cornbread.
Other dining locations and attractions are also open so you have more choices than ever.
SPECIAL TICKETED EVENTS
These change year after year so I am really excited to see what might be announced for next summer.
Basically, one of the parks will close early and only be open for people who purchase the event ticket.
In the past, they have had a pirate and princess and villains-themed “After Hours” events at Magic Kingdom, Toy Story-themed, H20 Glow Nights at Typhoon Lagoon, and a Star Wars Event at Hollywood Studios.
WEATHER
There is no way to sugar coat this, July is the hottest month of the year with average high temperatures above 90 degrees every single day of the month.
Average lows and highs range from 74 to 91 degrees.
When you visit in the summer it will be hot and you will experience rain.
Be prepared with any items you may need and make sure you know where you can go to escape afternoon heat and rain showers.
BEFORE YOU GO
I think planning a break in your day is extremely important any time of the year but it is especially useful in the summer to escape the worst of the heat in the afternoon.
We love going back to the hotel for a shower and change, it is amazing how refreshed you feel.
If you don’t want to bounce around then at least plan some sit-down dining for between lunch and dinner and enjoy some air conditioning.
