Everything you need to know about visiting Walt Disney World in the Spring
Spring is a perfect time for a Walt Disney World vacation. If your family is planning a trip during Spring Break, Easter, or April Vacation, you’re in for beautiful weather, hands-on learning opportunities, and seasonal fun—all wrapped up in Disney magic!
Our family took our first-ever Disney trip in late April – where we celebrated two birthdays, and to this day, we still reminisce about those special moments. We were amazed by the colorful topiaries and gardens at EPCOT and spent hours exploring the different festival displays. We still reminisce about visiting the Butterfly House.
If you’re planning a springtime Disney adventure, here’s what you need to know to make the most of your trip.

EPCOT INTERNATIONAL FLOWER AND GARDEN FESTIVAL
One of the biggest highlights of visiting Disney in the spring is the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. Running from early March through late May or early June, this festival turns EPCOT into a living classroom with incredible displays of nature, art, and science.
Learning Through Disney Magic
This festival is a gold mine for homeschool families and scouters working on nature-related achievements!
What to Explore:
✔ Character Topiaries – Over 20 Disney-themed floral displays scattered throughout the park. Challenge your kids to find and name them all!
✔ Butterfly Garden – Learn about metamorphosis in action as you watch real butterflies emerge.
✔ Floating Gardens & Greenhouses – A great way to study botany and sustainable gardening.
✔ Outdoor Kitchens – A fun way to introduce global flavors and cultural food experiences.
And let’s not forget the food! EPCOT festivals always bring incredible flavors, and this one is no exception. A few of our family’s favorite festival snacks include:
Violet Lemonade – A sweet, floral frozen drink kids (and adults) love!
Local Wildflower Honey-Mascarpone Cheesecake – A treat inspired by pollinators.
Salmon Flower Ikura – A delicious dish for seafood fans.
Festival Fun for Kids
Beyond the gardens and food, there are fun activities designed just for kids!
Spike’s Pollen-Nation Exploration – A scavenger hunt where kids search for Spike the Bee hidden in festival gardens.
Egg-Stravaganza Hunt – A seasonal Easter egg hunt around the World Showcase.
Hands-on Tours – Extra-ticketed experiences where kids can learn more about gardening and conservation.
If your family loves earning adventure loops or merit badges, this is a fantastic opportunity to turn fun into learning!
ANIMAL KINGDOM EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS
Did you know that Animal Kingdom opened on Earth Day (April 22nd, 1998)? That’s why Disney goes all out for Party for the Planet, an annual celebration of conservation and wildlife.
Earth Day Fun at Animal Kingdom:
✔ Special Character Meet & Greets – Rare characters have made surprise appearances in past years.
✔ Conservation Talks – Meet animal care experts and Disney’s conservation team.
✔ Unique Animal Experiences – Get a closer look at Disney’s wildlife conservation efforts.
✔ Eco-Friendly Snacks – Limited-time Earth Day-inspired treats pop up across the park.
If you have animal lovers or aspiring conservationists in your family, this is a great way to spark curiosity and deepen their understanding of wildlife protection!
WEATHER
Springtime in Orlando means warm but comfortable weather—perfect for park-hopping, pool time, and outdoor exploring!
Average High: 84°F
Average Low: 63°F
Rainfall: Spring is one of the drier seasons in Florida.
Packing Tips for Spring in Disney
✔ Layers are key! Mornings can be cool, so bring a light jacket or sweater.
✔ Pool time? Absolutely! Most hotel pools are heated, and mid-day temps are perfect for a swim.
✔ Sunscreen & sunglasses – Even in April, the Florida sun is strong.
Despite the generally warm afternoons, you could still experience a chilly morning on your trip. So, be sure to bring a light jacket or sweater that you can wear in the morning and then store in your park bag when it starts to heat up.
And it will probably be a comfortable enough temperature for most people to swim, so bring your swimsuit if you plan to take advantage of the hotel pools!
SPRING CROWDS and HOW TO HANDLE THEM
Spring is one of the busier seasons at Walt Disney World, thanks to school vacations across the country. While it’s not as intense as Christmas week, crowd levels are still high.
The fact that every school has a different schedule spreads crowds out quite a bit. It is still a very busy time in the park. It is very important to stay ahead of the hordes with careful planning during this time. Use code BLOG10 for 10% off this Crowd Calendar!
How to Stay Ahead of the Crowds:
Book dining reservations early – Popular restaurants fill up fast. Reservations open 60 days in advance!
Use Premier Pass & Lightning Lane strategies – These tools will help you skip long lines at major attractions.
Arrive early! – Rope drop (getting to the park before opening) is key during peak season.
Consider staying at a Skyliner or Monorail resort – Faster transportation = less stress and more park time!
One of the best ways to ensure a smooth Disney trip is to work with an experienced Disney travel planner—like Penny Cooper at Embrace The Magic Travel!
